MOVIE REVIEW OUTLINE

MOVIE TITLE: Jason and the Argonauts

MAIN IDEA: Jason wants to find out who he really (was, are) and it is a test about how much he can do in order to save his family and kingdom.

I.  SUMMARY & THEME:
A. The movie begins with Jason returning to the kingdom of Thessaly to make his rightful claim to the throne. His uncle Pelias has murdered Jason's father , stolen the throne and forced the queen to become his wife. Threatening the life of Jason's mother. To save his  mother’s life, Jason promises to deliver the most converted gift of the gods to his uncle the golden fleece. He embarks on a perilous voyage to capture the Fleece and fulfill his destiny.
B. The theme of this film is that things aren’t going to always work out the way you plan, and also bad situations in life are only temporary.

II. CASTING
A. Jason London (Jason) did a great job of acting his role. He has a great acting skill that fitted the description of Jason.
B. Angus Macfadyen’s image looked a lot like Zeus and Olivia Williams’ was really beautiful, especially the part where they were quarreling with each other on Jason’s quest.

III. EDITING
A. Since the film was a TV/ Movie film, then I understand that there are some parts that were cut in order to thrill and make the audience’s curiosity.
B. Example is the end of the movie and what happened next to the Fleece.

IV. SOUND ENGINEERING
A. This was filmed 13 years ago, with less advanced technologies. Some part has bad sound effects like the part where Jason was supposed to defeat the Minoan bull, the sound was so irritating and the creaking noises were so loud.
B. I can say some part are also sound good for example the part where only Hera and Zeus are talking to each other, the background music isn’t stopping.

V. CINEMATOGRAPHY
            A. The lighting was good and it was based on the mood of each scene.
B. Some of the graphics of the film are not that good, one example is the part of the Minoan Bull, it didn’t look very much realistic.

Movie review

  Jason and the argonauts

A Sci-fi or Science fiction and action movie that is made from the famous tale from Greek mythology: the quest for the Golden Fleece. Its the story about the journey and victory of a young man to fight for his destiny and kingdom. This film is suitable for any types of viewers, it is recommended to watch specially those who are very interested on Greek myths because it showcase different gods and goddesses and their strengths and weaknesses. Though it is too long compared to other films but it is complete story.

The film is about the adventure of Jason to retrieve his throne and the kingdom from his wicked uncle ,Pelias agreed in one condition but to get the golden fleece and bring it to him. Then Jason accepted the challenge, and go on a journey with Hercules and the Argonauts. They overcome and succeeded all the trials, battles, temptation and sorrow from the several adventures or battles such as the women from Lemnos, the harpies, clashing rocks and the dragon, they surpass able to get the fleece and bring back his Kingdom.

The theme is very inspiring and hopeful because of the strength and courage of Jason to fulfill his destiny and goal . It is also very heroic because he sacrifice his life through his voyage in order to fight for what he deserves.

Jason London played the role of Jason, his performance was amazing very suitable for his character because his looks are good and strong while his acting is great he justified the role well. He met my expectation because he is a good actor by his facial expressions, delivery of dialogue and actions. While some of the cast are also good , but I admit that Orpheus (Adrian Lester) didn`t met my expectation because I thought that Orpheus looks way better and fairer but I think he still did a great job in portraying his role.

The editing of this film is good yet not that smooth because some scenes are not realistic like the scene that Jason and the bull are fighting it isn`t that convincing for me. Though I was amazed to some adventure scene like in the clashing rocks, the audience could feel the tension and suspense because of the falling rocks.

On its Sound engineering, it was great because every scene has its background sound specially on its battle scenes and one of it was were they`re conquering and hunting the harpies because the sound of it are too tricky and scary because of the high irritating groan of the harpies.

Lastly the Cinematography was a blast on its overall presentation because all the lighting, visual effects are effective to convince the viewers about when and where the story happened. I like how they creatively shot each scenes specially the scenes when Hera and Zeus appeared on the clouds and arguing or talking though it also doesn`t look realistic , I still love it.

MOVIE REVIEW OUTPUT

JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS

This movie is recommended for those who needs a movie that can show the happenings from the Greek Mythology story, 'Jason and the Argonauts' or 'The Quest for the Golden Fleece'. If you're looking for a movie that you will enjoy because of the effect and such, I suggest you look for another.

Pelias is Jason's selfish uncle who killed his father, King of a kingdom. However, the King has a son named Jason and he escaped. A prophecy for Pelias was discovered: He will be killed by a boy who will enter his kingdom who wears only one sandal. The boy in the prophecy was Jason. They made a trade: Jason gets the kingdom, Pelias gets the Golden Fleece he was after. Sooner Jason then led the Argonauts (a group of men who will help him get the fleece). They sailed, hopping islands, met an oracle who helped them pass trough the moving, giant stones and to the Colchis. He met the King AEtes and asked for the fleece. King AEtes doesn't like the idea of the fleece leaving his kingdom so he set Jason trough hard challenges. Hera, a goddess, who was in favor of Jason asked Eros to make Medea, King AEtes' daughter to fall in love to him so she could help him pass the challeges. Jason rose triumphant. The King didn't follow his promise and engaged Medea to Jason so he will stay in Colchis. They stole the fleece from a dragon and escaped. On their way, they were chased by the King's army. In the end, they escaped with Medea killing her brother, Asyrthus.

This movie shows us that the most powerful weapon ever known to mankind is a soul on fire. Jason is really after the Kingdom so he endured all the challenges and did his very best even though he almost died on the way.

I find the casting fine. Almost all of them fit the roles, except for Orpheus. Being a fan of Orpheus and Euridice's story, I expected Orpheus to be a white man because they're in Greece and I thought Greece people are all white or kind if in the middle skin tone but Adrian Lester who played Orpheus...just didn't meet my expectation. Though his acting is fine. All of them really are fine. They're just kind of like robotic and it was as if they're stopping their emotions from flowing and they end up looking kind of try hard, especially Jason London who played Jason. He's like a robot with his expressions so serene even though the moment calls for some reaction he just stares. Maybe he likes to stare, I don't know.

I find the editing bad. It needs improvement. Comparing this movie to the movies which are out now is like, comparing Super Mario games back then to GTA. It really needs improvements. There was this part wherre Jason was talking to this half-horse, half-man guy and the horse part looked like it was kind of being dragged and it doesn't follow the body pretty well. Even if it's sort of minor, it does need improvement. Then those part when they showed Hera and Zeus in the sky? It's just...not good enough.

For the Sounds, I find some parts lacking the suspense sounds, some are exagerated. The sound doesn't fit for some scenes but it's fine if you're just after the story. There was this part where Jason's father was killed and the sound just doesn't fit much and kind of lame. Needs improvement too.

There were times when I was watching the movie and it kind of gets blurry because of the darkness, like in the part where Pelias' son was talking to one of the Argonauts. It was night and I find the lighting bad. In the chambers, where Jason stayed and Medea visit him... I had to really move my head just so I could look for angles where I might see it better. Need improvement too although most of the scenes were outside of the open.
